Painting

Painting Supplies needed
If using acrylic or oil
*Paints including but not limited to: Ultramarine Blue, Cobalt Blue, Titanium White, Yellow Light Hansa, Yellow Deep Hue, Red (true red), Black, Brown, Light Green or Green, Brilliant Blue or Turquoise. These paints should be in tubes (thicker paint to build up textures) not plastic containers with tops.
Acrylic glazes: You may purchase an acrylic matte or gloss glaze. This is not a required supply. You may find after entering the class you may want to make your acyrlics transparent or slow down the drying process. Glazes can be purchased at a later time and may not be required.
The oil paint glaze I prefer is liquin. It allows for transparency and slight sheen to be added to painting. This is not required.
*Brushes: Round and flat brushes from a small detail brush to ½ inch to 1 inch wide depending on the size of canvas. 3 round brushes in a variety of sizes, 3 flat brushes in a variety of sizes and 2-3 small detail brushes. These may be bought at a low cost at Walmart or Michaels in a package.
*Choice of canvas book, canvas, masonite or plywood to paint your subject on.
Canvas book and masonite tend to be the least expensive. Boxed canvas compared to regular flat canvas can be quite expensive. Masonite or plywood can be purchased at Lowe’s or Home Depot. Canvas or canvas book can be purchased at Michael’s and possibly Joanns or Walmart. 8”x 10” or larger.
Materials to contain paint and water (the student artist may choose egg cartons, plastic cups for water, a traditional palette, etc.)
A color photo reference to create a painting. I will have some pictures available in class.
Introduction to Drawing
Cost per student: $10 per lesson
Time: 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m.
Days: Thursdays
Size of class: limit to 15, minimum 5
Age group: Adult
Goals:
Teaching the basics of the following
1. how to shade
(recognize lights and darks and how to create a 3D effect)
2. proportions (spacing and size)
3. shapes and foreshortening
(demonstration and handouts on drawing)
4. importance of detail
(detail gives the drawing lifelike qualities)
Class supplies needed:
Sketchbook: 8”x10” or larger should be drawing paper not for another media
Drawing pencils: 6h, 4h, 2h, hb, 2b, 4b, 6b
Often can be purchased as sets. Walmart and Michaels usually have.
Eraser: Knead eraser if unavailable a basic white or pink eraser.
Charcoal sticks or charcoal drawing pencils. One or two should be adequate.
